BASEBALL Mavericks Independent Baseball League: The new four-team Mavericks League started play this week in its inaugural 2021 season. Each team will play its 48-game schedule through August at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer (OR). Ryan Weiss Named Double-A Central Pitcher of the Week for May 10-16

AMARILLO, Texas - Sod Poodles pitcher Ryan Weiss has been named Double-A Central Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 10 - 16, the League announced. On the week, the Illinois native made one start on May 12 at Wichita, throwing six hitless innings with seven strikeouts and one walk. Weiss has started two games this season, combining to allow just one run on four hits in 10 innings pitched. His 0.90 ERA on the season is the lowest among Sod Poodles starting pitchers with at least two starts. MOOSIC, PA - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pitcher Deivi Garcia has been selected as Triple-A East's Pitcher-of-the-Week for May 10-16. Garcia is the number two prospect in the New York Yankees organization according to Baseball America. The right-hander went 1-0 with a spotless ERA over two starts against Lehigh Valley during the week, striking our a total of 16 batters and walking just two. (SUGAR LAND, Texas) - Houston Astros left-hander Framber Valdez is scheduled to begin his Major League rehab assignment at 4:05 p.m. on Monday with a start for the Sugar Land Skeeters against the Round Rock Express at Dell Diamond. Right-hander Jake Odorizzi will begin his Major League rehab assignment at 6:05 pm. on Tuesday with a start for the Skeeters in Round Rock.
