Former K-Wing Gourde, Lightning Win Stanley Cup

KALAMAZOO, MI - Former Kalamazoo Wings forward Yanni Gourde and the National Hockey League's Tampa Bay Lightning won the Stanley Cup Monday in Edmonton. The Lightning's 2-0 victory in Game 6 against the Dallas Stars clinched the organization's second Stanley Cup and first since 2004. Gourde, 28, scored 15 goals and had 34 points in 30 games during the 2013-14 season for the K-Wings, his last stint in the ECHL. Stanley Cup Comes Home to Roest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Tampa Bay Lightning assistant general manager Stacy Roest will become the 17th former Grand Rapids Griffins player to have his name added to the Stanley Cup, by virtue of his team's 4-2 series win over the Dallas Stars in the 2020 Stanley Cup Final. This marks the seventh time in the last 13 years and the ninth time in the last 16 seasons that a former Griffin will have his name engraved on the most famous trophy in sports. MLS and Colorado Rapids Confirm Additional COVID-19 Positive Cases

NEW YORK - Major League Soccer today confirmed that one additional Colorado Rapids player and seven more members of the club's staff received confirmed positive tests for COVID-19. Today's announcement follows the postponement of the Sept. 27 match between Colorado and Sporting Kansas City to allow for additional testing due to confirmed COVID-19 positive cases within the Rapids organization. BASEBALL Frontier League: The owner of the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the independent American Association announced a deal to bring a Frontier League expansion team to Ottawa (Ontario, Canada) next season under a ten-year lease agreement. Ottawa's most recent team called the Ottawa Champions played five seasons (2015-19) in the independent Can-Am League, but the team was not included in a merger of the Can-Am League teams into the Frontier League after the 2019 season due to financial and ballpark lease issues.
