Binghamton Senators News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - The Binghamton Senators clinched the East Division title and third seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 5-4 regulation win over the visiting Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Jean-Gabriel Pageau netted three goals with two being on the power-play while Mark Stone assisted on all of Pageau's goals to lead the Sens offensively.

Shane Prince opened the scoring for Binghamton just 2:49 into the first period when he converted a centering feed from Ryan Dzingel for his 21st goal of the season.

Pageau added his first goal of the evening at the 17:18 mark of the period to give the hosts the 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

Starting the second period on the power play, Binghamton wasted no time to increase their lead to 3-0 when Pageau scored just 18 seconds in. Cole Schneider started a 3-on-1 rush up the ice before dishing the puck to Stone who sent a back-hand feed towards the goal mouth where Pageau got a stick on the pass to beat Peter Mannino top shelf.

David Dziurzynski notched his 13th goal of the year less than five minutes into the period before Pageau completed his hat trick bid with his 20th goal on the season less than two minutes later to move the score to 5-0.

The Penguins got on the scoreboard 20 seconds after Pageau's third of the night when Adam Payerl beat Andrew Hammond before Bobby Farnham notched a shorthanded tally just before the 14 minute mark of the period. The score remained 5-2 heading into the final intermission.

Wilkes-Barre managed two final period goals to move the contest to a 5-4 game with less than three minutes to play. Hammond withstood the bulk of the Penguins' 26 third period shots in the waning moments of the game to preserve the victory for Binghamton.

Hammond finished with 43 saves on 47 shots faced for his 25th victory of the year while Mannino allowed five goals on 27 shots faced in the loss.

Binghamton finishes up its regular season tomorrow when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 7:05p.m. The B-Sens will have to wait to see who their first round opponent is as the Eastern Conference playoff picture is still unclear. Tickets for tomorrow are available by calling the Binghamton Senators Executive Office at (607) 722-7367 or stopping in between 8:00a.m. and puck drop.
