Otters Wallop Windy City with Season-High 25 Hits

(CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS) - The Evansville Otters (33-21) set a new season high with 25 hits in their 15-5 victory over the Windy City Thunderbolts on Tuesday morning.

The 25 hits were the second-most in franchise history, falling just two shy of the team's 27 hit total on August 20, 2005.

First baseman Nik Balog went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and a sacrifice fly in the win. Designated hitter Chris Sweeney collected four hits, homering twice in the series-clinching victory.

The Otters bats awoke early for the 10:35 am game. Evansville plated five runs in the first against Windy City pitcher Tad Barton. Balog started the scoring with a sac fly as Sweeney hit a three run home run to left field later in the inning.

Windy City answered with a run later in the inning but Evansville totaled another four runs in the fourth. Balog added a two-run home run to right field as part of the Otters 9-1 lead.

After Windy City rallied back to trail just 9-4, Evansville scored another run in the seventh and four more in the eighth. Sweeney added his second three-run home run of the day in the eighth as part of the 15-5 win.

Catcher Kolin Conner also set a season-high with four hits in the contest.

Dennis (1-1) earned the win, going 5.0 innings for the Otters, allowing two earned runs in the game.

Evansville will go for a sweep in the series finale at Windy City on Wednesday. Otters left-hander Blake Monar (1-2, 5.19 ERA) is the slated probable against Thunderbolts righty Daniel Cropper (3-6, 5.37 ERA).

The game is set for a 10:35 am CDT start at Standard Bank Stadium.

The game will be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will have the call beginning at 10:15 am CDT.
