Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Gwinnett Braves right-hander Zach Stewart has been named the International League Pitcher of the Week for the period of August 25 to September 1.

Stewart went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA (3 ER in 13.0 IP), four walks and 12 strikeouts in two starts last week, both quality efforts. He tossed 7.0 innings of one-run baseball and struck out a season-high seven to lead Gwinnett to a 7-1 victory over Durham on August 26. On the season's final day on September 1, he allowed two runs over 6.0 innings and struck out five in a no-decision at Charlotte, an eventual 9-2 G-Braves' win. Stewart's last two starts helped power the club from fourth place to a second place finish in the IL South.

The 27-year-old Stewart went 7-4 with a 4.58 ERA (54 ER in 106.0 IP) in 20 games, 14 starts during his first season with the G-Braves. He was acquired by the Atlanta Braves from the Chicago White Sox on March 10.

Stewart is the recipient of the IL weekly award for the second time in his career. He was also the IL Pitcher of the Week during the final week of the 2013 season as a member of the Charlotte Knights. The Wichita Falls, TX native is the first Gwinnett pitcher to win the award since left-hander Yohan Flande did so for the period of July 29 to August 5, 2013.

Gwinnett players won IL weekly awards five times in 2014, including Ernesto Mejia (Batter of the Week for April 3-6), Joey Terdoslavich (Batter of the Week for April 21-27 and August 18-24), Phil Gosselin (Batter of the Week for July 7-13) and Stewart.

The Gwinnett Braves open the 2015 season at Coolray Field on Thursday, April 9 vs. Durham. For more information on 2015 Season Tickets, call the Coolray Field Ticket Office at 678-277-0340.
