NFL's Marques Colston Joins Soul Ownership Group

PHILADELPHIA (October 2, 2014) - The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League announce the addition of current New Orleans Saints' wide receiver Marques Colston to the Soul Ownership Group. Colston joins the existing ownership group which consists of Craig Spencer, Ron Jaworski, Pete Ciarrocchi, Cosmo DeNicola and Marty Judge.
"Adding Marques only elevates our already strong ownership group and organization," said Soul Co-Majority Owner and ESPN analyst, Ron Jaworski. "He clearly has a vision of 'life after football' and is serious about his involvement with the business side of sports. Marques is a champion on the field and shares our core values and drive to be the best on and off the field."

Colston was drafted by the Saints in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football at Hofstra. Colston holds the NFL record for most receptions in a player's first two seasons with 168. He helped the Saints achieve victory in Super Bowl XLIV with seven receptions for 83 yards. Since his arrival, Colston's led the Saints in receiving yardage five times and holds the franchise record with six 1,000-yard seasons. Colston is the Saints' all-time franchise leader in receiving yards (8,522), yards from scrimmage (8,529), receiving touchdowns (64), total touchdowns (64), and total receptions (619).
In four seasons at Hofstra, Colston appeared in 40 games (37 starts) and recorded 182 catches for a school-record 2,834 yards and 18 touchdowns. Colston was named to the All-Atlantic 10 first team after making a career-high 70 receptions for 976 yards (13.9 avg.) and five touchdowns.
Colston attended Susquehanna Township High School, in Harrisburg, PA and was a letterman in football and track. In football, he won All-Conference honors as a wide receiver/defensive end. In track, he qualified for the 2001 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the javelin.
A current resident of Medford, NJ (when not with the Saints), Colston is also the majority owner of his hometown Harrisburg Stampede, currently of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL). With the Stampede, Marques is not only the majority owner, but is also the President and General Manager of the organization. He is intimately involved with managing both business and football operations for the team. Marques orchestrated the team's move from the Farm Show Complex to the Giant Center before the 2014 season as well as led the team to become the AIF National Champions in 2013. He looks to bring his business and football operations acumen to the Soul. There will be a "Meet Marques" event scheduled for Friday, October 10 from 6pm-7pm at Chickie's and Pete's in South Philadelphia. The event is open to the public as the Soul officially welcome Marques to the Soul family.
