Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - In the first half of a two-game weekend home-and-home series, the Indy Fuel defeated the Evansville IceMen in a shootout on Friday by a final score of 4-3 at the Fairgrounds Coliseum. With the win, the Fuel improved to 2-3-1-1 this season and with six points, claimed third place alone in the ECHL's North Division standings.
Evansville claimed an early first period lead as Myles Bell made it 1-0 IceMen at 5:07. The Fuel were quick to respond, however, as Matt White potted back-to-back scores, at 8:41 and 10:12 respectively, to deliver the Fuel their first lead of the hockey game at 2-1.
In the middle frame, Mike Duco's second tally of the season, a power-play marker at 5:59, made it 3-1 Fuel, but Bell's second score of the game followed for Evansville at 15:58 and drew the IceMen within a goal at 3-2 heading into the second intermission.
After a tight start to the third, the IceMen capitalized at 12:25 when Kale Kerbashian lasered a tying goal past Fuel goaltender Cody Reichard that eventually forced overtime. After a scoreless extra session, the Fuel received shootout scores from Brett Perlini, Mathieu Brisebois, Robert Czarnik and Jamie Wise to claim a 4-3 victory in front of 2,559 fans at the Fairgrounds Coliseum.
Next up for the Fuel, it's a Saturday rematch with the IceMen with the opening faceoff set for 8:15 pm EST at the Ford Center in Evansville. Full coverage of Saturday's game begins with the "Jose Cuervo Pregame Show" at 8:00 pm on the Fuel's flagship station, CBS Sports 1430 AM with Fuel broadcaster Tony Brown providing the play-by-play.
