Springfield Falcons News Release

Allentown, Pa. - The Springfield Falcons took their seventh straight win as they defeated the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, 3-2, tonight at the PPL Center.

The victory keeps the Falcons on top of the Northeast Division and gives them sole possession of first in the Eastern Conference with 27 points. The team now sits at 13-7-1-0 on the season and takes a one game lead in the two-game season series against the Phantoms. Lehigh Valley drops to 8-7-2-0.

Springfield netminder Anton Forsberg earned his sixth consecutive victory, turning aside 21 of 23 shots on goal. Lehigh Valley netminder Anthony Stolarz stopped 31 of 34. The Falcons converted on one of three power play opportunities, while stopping two of four Phantoms man-advantages.

The Falcons were the first to strike halfway through the first period and carried their 1-0 lead into the intermission. Michael Chaput passed the puck down to Mike Hoeffel at the goal line, where he netted his third goal of the season to give the Falcons the lead while on the power play. Nathan Oystrick earned a point for the secondary assist.

Trent Vogelhuber and Jaime Sifers each notched their first goal of the season to put Springfield up, 3-0, in the second frame. Jerry D'Amigo grabbed control of the puck in the right corner and shot it out to Thomas Larkin at the right point. Stolarz made the initial save, but left the rebound out for Vogelhuber pick up the loose puck and pot it at the 4:01 mark.

Sifers further extended the Falcons' lead with 2:25 remaining in the middle frame. Sifers fired a shot from the right point that rung off the cross bar and into the back of the net.

The Phantoms started a surge in the final period with two power-play goals, but came up short and fell to the Falcons, 3-2. With Kerby Rychel in the box for roughing, Nick Cousins sent a feed across the slot to Steven Delisle to put the Phantoms on the board. Robert Hagg also earned credit for the helper.

Just as the Phantoms pulled Stolarz for an extra attacker with 1:13 remaining, they cut the Falcons lead to one. Blair Jones won the face-off in the right wing circle and sent the puck to Brandon Manning at the blue line. Zack Stortini screened Forsberg, allowing Taylor Leier to beat him top right corner from the right circle.
