Ontario Reign News Release

ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (14-9-2-3), four-time Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, enjoyed three-goal outbursts in the first and second periods en route to a 6-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles (15-10-0-0) in front of a crowd of 6,844 on Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.

Ontario got off to an early start when Matt White roofed a backhand shot past Doug Carr at 1:03, following a give-and-go passing play from Tristan King and Judd Blackwater.

Half a minute later, Dennis Brown retrieved the puck and moved it along to Kyle Bigos, whose point shot from the right side deflected off of the pads of Carr and rolled back to Alex Roach. The Reign blueliner then unleashed a slap shot from the left point that beat Carr at 1:33 for his first professional goal.

At the 7:41 mark, Tyler Scofield took advantage of a turnover by an Eagles defender and walked in on Carr, snapping the puck past the netminder's blocker.

The Reign continued their early scoring habits in the second frame, as Blackwater received a pass from the left corner by White and one-timed a shot through the legs of Carr at 0:57.

Blackwater then added another score on Ontario's first power-play of the night by backhanding a rebound from Ralfs Freibergs' point shot past Carr at 5:02 to extend the Reign lead to five goals.

Colorado eventually got on the board at the 15:40 mark on the power-play, when Vitalijs Pavlovs grabbed Brock Nixon's rebound and knocked the puck past Olkinuora.

Ontario answered when Derek Couture sent a stretch pass to Rocco Carzo, who then flew down the right wing and fed a trailing Scofield for a tip-in score at 18:54.

Colorado opted to replace Carr with Clarke Saunders for the third period, and although the Eagles managed 14 shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of play, Olkinuora stood tall for Ontario the rest of the way.

Olkinuora earned the victory with 30 saves; Carr took the loss with 10 stops.
