Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

GREENSBORO, NC - Joel Fisher, who hit a grand slam in a Sunday win at West Virginia, broke a 6-6 tie with an 11th inning two-run home run as Lakewood topped Greensboro 8-6 on Monday night at NewBridge Bank Park.

Fisher had hit just two professional home runs, one this year, before Sunday. His home run off Sam Alvis (3-5) came with two outs in the 11th to give Lakewood their second straight win. The game was only in extras after Lakewood got three straight two-out hits in the 9th, the last two by Deivi Grullon and Jiandido Tromp to drive in runs that tied the game.

The BlueClaws (21-16/54-51) keep pace with first place West Virginia and stay five games back. Greensboro drops their 11th game in their last 14, falling to 10-27/39-67.

Jairo Munoz (1-0) earned the win throwing scoreless relief in the 10th and 11th innings while Joey DeNato earned his seventh save with a scoreless 11th inning.

Greensboro scored four times in the second inning to take a 4-1 lead - first on an RBI single by Justin Twine. Then Tyler Viza made an errant throw on a comebacker that allowed two runs to score, and Felix Castillo followed with an RBI single for the Grasshoppers.

Lakewood battled back to tie the game, getting a two-run home run by Herlis Rodriguez off starter Gabriel CAstellanos in the fifth and a solo home run by Jiandido Tromp off Kelvin Reyes in the sixth to tie the game.

Viza settled in and retired 11 in a row until he hit John Norwood with a pitch to start the sixth inning. Norwood would steal second and come in to score on Brian Schales' RBI single to put the Hoppers up 5-4. Viza came out after six, allowing five runs, three earned. Greensboro added a run off Calvin Rayburn and would take a 6-4 lead to the ninth when Lakewood tied the game off Kyle Fischer.

Damek Tomscha went 4-5 for the BlueClaws while Tromp had three hits. Sandberg and Deivi Grullon had two hits apiece.

The BlueClaws and Grasshoppers continue their series on Tuesday night at 7:00. RHP Ranfi Casimiro (6-6) starts for Lakewood against RHP Jorgan Cavanerio (3-4).
