Hens Rise up in Eighth to Complete Comeback Win

Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Mud Hens played host to the Louisville Bats on Monday night at Fifth Third Field in game one of three. Toledo came off a loss on Sunday that saw their bullpen surrender a late inning lead to the first place Indianapolis Indians. However, Tigers' prospect Luis Cessa took the ball on Monday night and looked to turn Toledo's pitching fortune around. Cessa carried a 1-2 record into the evening's contest having started five games in the Toledo rotation.
For the Bats, Joel Bender took the hill shutting down the Mud Hens' bats over four innings and giving way to the bullpen. Donovan Hand went to work for Lousiville right where Bender left off as the Toledo offense had no answer for either arm. As they game cruised into the eighth the only offense either side could muster came back in the third as Irving Falu brought home Kyle Waldrop for a 1-0 lead. It looked like a muggy night in which the Hens would just lay down but that was not the case.
Miguel Gonzalez led off the bottom of the eighth with a base knock, followed by a sac bunt from Trayvon Robinson and another single from Daniel Fields. With runners at first and second Dixon Machado laid down a sac bunt and reached safely as Louisville first baseman Chirs Dominguez could not handle the dribbler. The scoring threat ended Donovan Hand's night and gave way to Drew Hayes out of the pen. Hens' slugger Steven Moya greeted Hayes with a go ahead single scoring both Gonzalez and Fields and took a late inning lead that stood. Jeff Ferrell came on to record his third save of the season as the Mud Hens sucessfully completed the come from behind victory.
Cessa did not earn the win, but threw his best game in a Toledo uniform. The right hander went 7.0 innings surrendering just one run on four hits with seven strikeouts. Josh Zeid earned his third win in relief.
The two squads are back at it on Tuesday, first pitch set for 6:30 PM.
