(Toledo, OH) Evan Rankin scored twice and Jeff Lerg stopped 23 shots to lead the Toledo Walleye to a 3-0 preseason win over Kalamazoo on Friday night at the Huntington Center.

Toledo took a 1-0 lead late in the first period when A.J. Jenks fed a pass in front of the Kalamazoo net that Evan Rankin tipped past goaltender Joel Martin at 17:56. The Walleye outshot the Wings 9-8 in the first period.

Rankin was at it again in the second period with a power play goal at 13:51 of the second period. Shane Berschbach, who had a Walleye record 48 assists last season, picked up one on the goal along with A.J. Jenks. Thirty seconds after the Rankin goal, Andrew Prochno beat goaltender Ryan DeMelo with a slap shot for a 3-0 Walleye lead.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg finished with 23 saves on the 23 shots he faced. Toledo outshot Kalamazoo 33-23 for the game. The two teams played five minute three on three overtime following the game with neither team scoring.
