Detroit Reassigns Edvinsson and Aston-Reese to Griffins

April 17, 2024 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday reassigned defenseman Simon Edvinsson and left wing Zach Aston-Reese to the Grand Rapids Griffins. Edvinsson suited up for 14 games during his most recent call up with Detroit from March 19-April 16. In total, Edvinsson competed in a career-best 16 outings with the Red Wings and posted two points (1-1-2), four penalty minutes, an even plus-minus rating and an average of 18:15 of ice time. April 17, 2024 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins will begin their quest for a third Calder Cup championship by facing the Rockford IceHogs in the best-of-five Central Division Semifinals. Seeding for the series is still up for grabs with three regular-season games remaining for each club. With the second-place Griffins leading the third-place IceHogs by a single point in the standings and the tiebreaker still undetermined, Grand Rapids' magic number for clinching the higher seed is six points compared to Rockford's eight. ... Griffins Sign Two-Time NCAA Champion Shai Buium to ATO

April 17, 2024 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday signed defenseman Shai Buium (shy BOO-yuhm) to an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2023-24 season. Buium also signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings that will begin during the 2024-25 campaign. Buium won the 2024 NCAA National Title with the University of Denver and was named to the 2024 NCHC Second All-Star Team. Riley Sawchuk Reassigned to Toledo

April 16, 2024 - GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Tuesday reassigned center Riley Sawchuk to the ECHL's Toledo Walleye. Sawchuk appeared in eight games for the Griffins during his most recent call up from March 29-April 14, showing one goal, four penalty minutes and a minus-one rating. In total, Sawchuk has skated in 12 games for Grand Rapids this season and has one goal and a minus-three rating. The 25-year-old has spent the majority of the campaign with the Walleye and possesses 52 points (25-27-52), 24 penalty minutes... Full Story
